PAPUA NEW GUINEA COMPUTER SOCIETY INC (PNGCS) CODE OF ETHICS
An undertaking must be given by all members that they would abide by the PNGCS Code of Ethics. This Code sets out the professional standards required by PNGCS as a condition of membership. Any breach of the Code of Conduct brought to the attention of PNGCS will be considered under PNGCS disciplinary procedures.
A Member of the Papua New Guinea Computer Society (PNGCS) must:
- Comply with the papua new guinea laws relating to the management of his organisation and operate within the sprit of these laws.
- Place the interest of the community above those of personal or sectional interests
- Improve public understanding of computing and its consequences
- Strive to achieve the highest quality, effectiveness and dignity in both the process and products of professional work
- Honor contracts, agreements and assigned responsibilities
- Not misuse his authority or office for personal gains
- Be honest, impartial, forthright and loyally serve the community
- Use skills and knowledge for the advancement of human welfare
- Enhance the integrity of the profession and the respect of its members
- Enhance own professional development and that of colleagues, employees and students
- Preserve the integrity and security of the information of others
- Respect the proprietary nature of others and give proper credit for intellectual property
- Honor property rights including copyrights and patent
- Give value for money in the services and products supply
- Give opinions which are unbiased & objective and must not misrepresent the skills and knowledge
- Seek professional advice at an early stage if you have any doubts about the appropriate application of the law or regulations.
- Not knowingly mislead a client or potential client as to the suitability of a product or service
- Be aware of the risks and liabilities resulting from giving incorrect advice; if appropriate take out professional indemnity insurance.
- Give the credit for the work done by others which is due
- Not knowingly engage in, or be associated with, dishonest or fraudulent practices
- Comply with non-discriminatory legislation in the areas of race, colour, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability or age in all aspects of your work.
- Avoid harm to others
- Be aware that most people within the organisation do not share your expertise; avoid technical jargon and express yourself clearly in terms they understand.
- Reject any offer of bribery or inducement
